The assignment

The Melbourne part of a global live production

Purple was producing the event from the Netherlands and needed an Australian team they could trust to handle everything happening in Melbourne.

It was not simply a matter of sending a couple of camera operators. Our part of the event had to fit neatly into a much larger international programme, follow the agreed schedule and be ready to go live at exactly the right time.

The local crew included a director, two camera operators, a livestream operator, gaffer, production assistant and autocue operator. We also handled the local producing, so Purple had one person to call rather than trying to coordinate the Melbourne production from another time zone.

Live production

A full local crew working to the international run sheet

We turned Purple’s brief into a practical Melbourne production plan, organised the crew and technical setup, and kept their team informed as everything came together.

The location was a meeting room inside a historic pub. The client liked the texture of the old stone walls and the character they gave the background, so we built the camera and lighting setup around the room rather than trying to make it look like a conventional studio.

On the day, the cameras, lighting, autocue and livestream operation all worked as one production. Purple could stay focused on the wider event while we looked after what was happening here.

The result

The Melbourne production was taken care of

The Australian component went live as part of the wider SAP programme, with our local team handling the people, equipment and technical workflow on the ground. Purple could hand us the Melbourne brief and know that this part of the production was covered.
